چکیده

where w [W/m] and c [m/s] are the sound intensity and the sound velocity, respectively. N is the number of the transducers used to form the array. S [m] is the radiation area of a single transducer and Stot = NS. A common airborne ultrasound transducer, which is used for the measurement of the distance or the detection of objects, can emit about 0.041 W of ultrasound in normal use. Hence, if the number of the transducer is 100 and the sound speed is 340 m/s, the total force produced with the array is estimated as about 2.4 [gf]. This estimated force is sufficient for producing vibratory sensation.

Adding Tactile Reaction to Hologram

In this paper, a hologram with tactile reactions is presented. The developed system consists of three components; a holographic display, a hand tracker, and a tactile display. The tactile display, which is our original device, produces force on user’s bare hand without any contact by using radiation pressure of airborne ultrasound. It adds the sense of touch to optical images floating in mid-ai...

Non-contact Method for Producing Tactile Sensation Using Airborne Ultrasound

This paper describes a new tactile device which produces stress fields in 3D space. Combined with 3D stereoscopic displays, this device is expected to provide high-fidelity tactile feedback for the interaction with 3D visual objects. The principle is based on a non-linear phenomenon of ultrasound, acoustic radiation pressure. We fabricated a prototype device to confirm the feasibility as a tact...

An Ultrasound Based Instrument Generating Audible and Tactile Sound

This paper, describes the second phase of an ongoing research project dealing with the implementation of an interactive interface. It is a “hands free” instrument, utilizing a non-contact tactile feedback method based on airborne ultrasound. The three main elements/components of the interface that will be discussed in this paper are: 1. Generation of audible sound by self-demodulation of an ult...

Airborne Ultrasonic Tactile Display Brain-computer Interface Paradigm

We study the extent to which contact–less and airborne ultrasonic tactile display (AUTD) stimuli delivered to the palms of a user can serve as a platform for a brain computer interface (BCI) paradigm. Six palm positions are used to evoke combined somatosensory brain responses, in order to define a novel contact-less tactile BCI. A comparison is made with classical attached vibrotactile transduc...

Focused Ultrasound for Tactile Feeling Display

We studied on the feasibility of focused ultrasound for tactile feeling display. Our experiments showed that focused ultrasound at 1 MHz and 5 MHz effected our somatic sensation both by its radiation pressure and by direct stimulation to the nerve structures. The radiation pressure force generated by our apparatus was 0.23 gf/cm per 1-watt power consumption and evoked tactile feeling stably, wh...
